SILKEBORG
SILKEBORG
A few days ago I was invited to a presentation of Ikea’s new rug collection „Silkeborg“. Actually I’m not that carpet freak and to be frank, this post really does not fit into my blog as well. BUT since I will move in a few days and my new apartment still could use some color, this event wasn’t such a bad idea in the first place. I wrapped myself up (Winter is coming) and made the long journey to the Ikea store to gather some inspiration. My body also longed for a nice little event to forget about all the packing and moving.
In fact, „little“ was the appropriate term for it. Guests were, a bored photographer, eating snacks in the corner and me, myself and I. Yep, quite lame! BUT on the other hand there were advantages, too. For example there was no need to beat people up because you want a glass of champagne or to get some snacks. The second advantage was, that I had two charming Swedish ladies from Ikea all to myself. They told me enthusiastically everything about the Silkeborg carpets collection and I enthusiastically drank my champagne and listened to them – while I ate my snacks.
The hard and important facts are: Silkeborg -The collection consists of old carpets (which some lovely housewives from Anatolia didn’t want in their living rooms anymore). Ikea had the bright idea to cut these rugs into small pieces and for the sake of MIX & MATCHING, they sew them together again (same – same- just different). The result are wild combinations of oriental rugs with a patchwork pattern. The roses pattern (take a look at the photos) remind me of Dolce&Gabbana handbags ?coincidence?! We’ll never know! After 45 minutes of satisfying snacks, drinks and information I went back home to my packing chaos with at least some inspirations for the new apartment .
Bottom Line:Such a cute and creative idea but unfortunately Dolce&Gabbana won’t make it into my closet and so won’t Silkeborg. What do you think?
